Dark Halo Orbits and Tidal Stripping with the Spirographic Approximation

چکیده

This paper discusses the orbit of a small dark matter halo, mass = .1M inside of a larger halo, mass = M. Using the spirographic approximation for the orbits, it addresses the effect of three orbital parameters: energy, angular momentum, and a frictional coefficient. Next, it analyzes the way mass is stripped from the small halo through tidal forces and the effect of the ratio of the density scales of the halos. Finally, it examines the resulting change in the large halo’s density profile.
